The MQ Fellows programme supports early career researchers investigating key questions that will improve the quality of life of people affected by mental illness. Applicants will have made an outstanding start to their research career as demonstrated by their research results, publications and career track record to date. Researchers need to be fully committed to this path and at a career stage that demonstrates this commitment. We are seeking applicants who are either newly independent or finalising their transition to independence. Applicants need to be able to demonstrate sufficient scientific maturity and independence. Applicants can be from any country and any scientific discipline. Applicants must be early career researchers with a PhD, MD or equivalent. Applicants must be able to demonstrate in their application that they are seeking support that will enable them to complete the transition to independent researcher status.

The 2014 Fellows Programme follows a 2-stage application process. Applicants are required to complete and submit a Stage 1 Letter of Intent application form. This is comprised of a 2-page Letter of Intent detailing their proposed research, an abbreviated curriculum vitae form and a cover sheet. This must be sent electronically to by Thursday 24th April, 2014, 17:00 BST. Shortlisted Applicants will be invited to complete Stage 2 of the process. This involves two components: submission of a Stage 2 Invited Proposal form (deadline 7th August, 2014 17:00 BST) and an interview with the Fellows Committee (22nd & 23rd September, 2014 London, UK).
