Post-doctoral position in Tübingen/Germany

Job ID
14751
Place
Tübingen/Germany

Description

We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow to join a team led by Ivana Nikić-Spiegel at the Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience in Tübingen.

Our lab studies molecular mechanisms of axonal damage. We previously described a novel form of axonal injury in a mouse model of a common neuroinflammatory disease, multiple sclerosis (Nikić et al, Nat Medicine 2011). In addition to the studies in mice, we are developing an in vitro model of axonal injury. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying axonal changes, we use super-resolution microscopy and chemical biology-based protein-engineering techniques to attach fluorescent dyes for microscopy, as well as affinity tags for proteomics (Nikić et al, Angew Chem 2016; Nikić & Lemke, Curr Opin Chem Biol 2015; Nikić et al, Nat Protocols 2015; Nikić et al, Angew Chem 2014).

The selected candidate will contribute to the ongoing projects in the lab, but is also expected to develop their own ideas. Considering the interdisciplinary nature of our work, in addition to the researchers with a PhD in neuroscience, we also encourage researchers from other fields (molecular/chemical biology, physics, biochemistry, etc.) to apply. Furthermore, the selected candidate should be interested in and enthusiastic about developing new methods and techniques. Previous experience with primary neuronal cultures, microscopy/image processing, molecular biology/genetic engineering techniques, or proteomics is preferred, but the most important criteria for selection are motivation, curiosity, a willingness to become a supportive team member, and fluency in English.

Desired start date is as soon as possible and the position is initially limited until 31 Jan. 2020, with a possibility of extension. Interested applicants should provide a CV, a cover letter describing research experience/interests, and contact details of 2-3 referees by E-Mail to ivana.nikic@cin.uni-tuebingen.de. The position will be open until filled.
