Description

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION – BIOINFORMATICS/COMPUTER SCIENCE

The successful candidate will join the team of Prof David Henshall working on molecular mechanisms controlling gene expression, biomarkers and treatments for Epilepsy. Recent research by the team has focused on how small noncoding RNAs called microRNAs control aberrant gene expression in the epileptic brain and explored targeting these and their biomarker potential. The team were also the first to report genome-wide DNA methylation changes in epilepsy. The purpose of the current role is to drive the analysis of RNA sequencing data to discover new noncoding RNAs, identify RNA editing and link these to novel pathways, targets and mechanisms of epilepsy. The researcher will have access to extensive pre-existing RNA seq datasets as well as newly generated RNAseq data from human brain tissue and biofluid samples from epilepsy patients, animal models and induced pluripotent stem cell models of genetic epilepsies.
