Description

< b >POST-DOC POSITION IN UBIQUITIN PROTEOMICS OF NEURONAL DISORDERS< /b >< br >
< u >EHU/UPV, Bilbao, Spain< /u >< br >
< div align="justify" >< div style="text-indent:40px;" >A 2 year postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Ikerbasque Research Professor Ugo Mayor to study the molecular mechanisms affected in Angelman Syndrome model systems. Funding for additional 3 years will be dependent on the CV of the applicant. < br >
< div style="text-indent:40px;" >Angelman Syndrome (AS) and dup15q-associated autism originate respectively from lack of or from excess of this protein in the brain. The lack of ubiquitination activity by UBE3A is sufficient to cause AS, while excess of UBE3A has been directly associated to dup15q syndrome. E3 ligases can have any number of cofactors as well as downstream targets; so the molecular cause of the clinically recognized symptoms of AS is still unclear. In order to understand the mechanisms by which tightly regulated levels of the ubiquitin E3 ligase UBE3A are critical for appropriate brain development and function, our lab is using innovative technology for the isolation, identification and validation of ubiquitination substrates from models organisms.< br >
< div style="text-indent:40px;" >We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a history of excellent research productivity and independent thinking. Experience and skills in proteomics and basic molecular biology are required, along with openness to explore novel approaches. Previous experience with neuronal cell culture and use of model organisms would be appreciated but is not mandatory. Excellent spoken and written English and the ability to work both independently and as a team member are expected. Knowledge of Spanish or Basque is not required.< br >
