Proposal Forms for Schools

  • ---INFORMATION FOR ALL SCHOOLS---
    For all schools, the selection of students will be entrusted to the school’s scientific organiser(s), in accordance to the FENS-IBRO Rules, with final approval by the FENS-IBRO committee.

    All schools must include a lecture on one of the following topics: use of animals in scientific research, ethics in neuroscience, communicating science. The Advisory panel on Ethics and the FENS Committee on Animals in Research (CARE) can provide experts to lecture on these issues.

  • Hertie Winter School
    Proposals for the Winter School should focus on the Scientific Programme only. The local organizer will take care of all local arrangements. The school will be held in the University Center Obergurgl in Austria. The schedule includes daily lectures with adequate time for extensive discussion, student work groups around a specific topic, and 2-3 poster sessions. The School accepts a maximum of 40 students and young scientists who provide evidence of sufficient scientific background and experience to benefit fully from the course.
    The budget of 55.000 EUR, provided by the HERTIE foundation and FENS-IBRO, will be administered by the local organizer. +++ next call opening on November 1st, 2011 +++
  • Summer School (Bertinoro, Italy)
    Applications for this type of school should focus on the Scientific Programme only. A local organizer will take care of the local arrangements. The school will be held in the Castle of Bertinoro (Italy, June 3-8, 2012). The schedule includes 4-5 daily lectures with adequate time for extensive discussion, student work groups around a specific topic, and 2-3 poster sessions. The School accepts a maximum of 30 students and young scientists who provide evidence of sufficient scientific background and experience to benefit fully from the course.
    The budget of 40.000 EUR, provided by FENS-IBRO, will be administered by the local organizer. Additional income from registration fees for the students (covering the room and board) must not exceed 300 EUR/student and the total travel costs for faculty should not exceed 10.000 EUR.   • Society for Neuroscience School (Bertinoro, Italy)
    A new initiative taken in collaboration with the Society for Neuroscience to help the dissemination of neuroscience education in Europe has been established. Applications for this type of school should focus on the Scientific Programme only. A local organiser will take care of the local arrangements. The school will be held in the Castle of Bertinoro, Italy, June 17-22, 2012.
    The budget of 40,000 EUR will be administered by the local organiser. For this type of school at least 2 applicants must jointly organize the school: one applicant being form North-America and one from Europe. The School accepts a maximum of 30 students and young scientists. Additional income from registration fees for the students (covering the room and board) must not exceed 300 EUR/student and the total travel costs for faculty should not exceed 10.000 EUR.   • Partially Supported School
    In collaboration with local and partner organizations FENS-IBRO may support a limited number of lecture-based or practical schools in Europe by providing each up to 20.000 €. Applications for this school category should include a scientific programme and information on the proposed location and facilities. Suggested duration of the School: 1 week.
    The number of participants should not exceed 40 students and young scientists. The money granted by FENS-IBRO should be used primarily to enable the participation of students with few resources. +++ next call opening on March 1st, 2012 +++
  • Open Format School

  • Training Centre
    We are inviting proposals from prestigious Neuroscience Institutions to hold Theoretical & Practical Summer Courses. Support for the Training Centre courses is awarded for one year, but it can be extended for subsequent years, based on the performance of the centre. The institution selected will be given the title " FENS-IBRO Training Centre". Applications for a Training Centre should consider the General Rules and must include a theoretical and a practical training programme. The practical training programme must cover in the same year or in subsequent years, several different techniques of importance to neuroscientists (anatomy, animal and/or human electrophysiology, imaging, animal behaviour, molecular biology, computational neuroscience, etc.). The anticipated duration of the school is 3-4 weeks. Applicants are required to provide a detailed proposal for activities and faculty. Information and documentation on the proposed location and on the available laboratory facilities is of paramount importance. The " FENS-IBRO Training Centre" should receive 15-20 PhD students and young scientists with the background required to meet the intense training programme anticipated for this school. Registration fees for the students (covering also lunch and lodging) must not exceed 500 €. FENS-IBRO will provide a budget of up to 40.000 € per year. +++ next call opening on March 1st, 2012 +++
  • Partnership Programme
    European academic research centres embarking on new fields of research may request a visit by a team of about 3 experts to advise local investigators. It is expected that some local expertise already exists, and that the lectures by the experts will attract a sizeable audience of researchers as well as students. FENS-IBRO will set up the team and pay the travel costs, whereas all local costs will be met by the applicants. Average duration of the visit: 3 days. +++ next call opening on March 1st, 2012 +++
