About the Event

The public lecture "Modern neuroscience: the way to understand the human nature" will be held at the start of Brain Awareness Week and open a series of BAW@Ukraine events. The audience of this event is university students, teachers, and non-specialists. The scientists from Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology will talk about brain structure, modern techniques to study brain functioning and recent insights into the treatment of neural disorders. Then during BAW, the Neuroscience Movie Club will be organized. The demonstration of several excellent movies with characters or plots related to neuroscience will be organized for school and university students. The movie watching will be preceded by an introductory lecture and followed by discussion (the movie’s scientific accuracy, impressions, etc). At the final of Ukrainian Brain Week, we will organize the workshop for schoolchildren. They will get an opportunity to get to know neuron structure and organization and functioning of neuronal networks. They will learn how our sensory systems work and how to keep them healthy. Kids will see some live experiments that demonstrate brain and sensory systems functioning. The youngest kids will look at the different tissue samples using microscopes and then paint neuron with the explanation of basics of its functioning. Also, official Ukrainian Brain Bee will be held at the end of the week.
