Post-doctoral position in Chicago/USA

Job ID

Multiple NIH-funded Postdoctoral Scientist positions are open in the laboratory of Dr. Ryan M. Drenan in the Department of Pharmacology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Drenan’s research group is engaged in advanced studies on the neurobiology, physiology, and pharmacology of cholinergic receptor systems. Of particular interest are studies on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and their role in nicotine reward, nicotine withdrawal, movement/motor disorders, and cortical network regulation. The lab employs innovative mouse models and genetic techniques to study native receptor systems in vivo, including transgenic and knockout/knockin mice, conditional deletion methods using Cre/lox systems, and genome editing approaches involving CRISPR/Cas9. Experimental work involves behavioral and cellular approaches. The latter includes, but is not limited to, brain slice patch clamp electrophysiology, multiphoton (two photon) imaging of neurons, and photostimulation of caged ligands. Other optical approaches involve studying cholinergic receptor expression throughout the brain using novel mouse models expressing fluorescently-labeled receptor proteins coupled with confocal and/or super resolution imaging. Dr. Drenan’s group is well-funded by both internal resources and Federal grant awards. His group occupies newly-renovated laboratory space in the Searle Medical Research Building at the downtown Chicago campus of Northwestern University.

The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. in a neuroscience-related field and prior experience with patch clamp electrophysiology. Of particular interest are candidates with additional experience in multiphoton imaging of neurons in brain slices. Interested individuals should send a detailed CV with bibliography, a brief statement of research accomplishments and future interests (max one page), and three strong letters of recommendation to drenan @ northwestern . edu
