PhD student, adult neurogesis and gut-brain interface in Lausanne/Switzerland

Job ID

Our research interest is the regulation of adult hippocampal neurogenesis by cellular biochemical and environmental factors. To this aim, we use various approaches, including electron microscopy and confocal microscopy, cell culture, mass spectrometry, inducible transgenic mice, viral-mediated gene transfer and behavior.
We are a group of highly motivated scientists who value synergistic collaborations and science integrity.

The project:
This project is part of our effort to understand the gut-brain axis and more specifically, to test the possibility that the microbiota impacts cognition and anxiety-mood by modulating adult hippocampal neurogenesis. We will focus on specific, active probiotics, and their effect on behavior and adult neurogenesis in vivo.
To strengthen our team and to lead this project, we are looking for a young scientist with a master in Neuroscience. The student will be integrated into the Lemanic Neuroscience Doctoral School ( in view of obtaining a PhD degree.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates, with background in neuroscience, preferably in the field of adult neurogenesis or gut-brain axis. We will only consider applications from scientists (Master degree or equivalent) with strong expertise in neuroscience. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with histology (immunostaining, confocal microscopy) or gut-brain axis (germ-free mice, gut microbiota analysis).
The candidate is a team player, has strong skills in verbal and written communication (English required, French is an asset), works independently, but is eager to collaborate with other members of the team to participate to different projects and learn new techniques.
