Job ID

The Mameli Lab seeks for a highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow to join our team at the Department of Fundamental Neuroscience of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Starting date March-May 2018.

Our laboratory investigates how external rewarding and aversive stimuli modify synaptic transmission in neuronal circuits for motivated behaviors. Research in the laboratory focuses on understanding the input-output functional connectivity within the lateral habenula and how this controls rewarding or aversive states in both physiological and pathological states.

In the lab we apply a combinatorial approach using in-vivo/ex-vivo electrophysiological recordings, anatomical tracing with in-vitro and in-vivo optogenetics and behavioral analysis. The available project will aim to understand the functional and structural adaptations in the lateral habenula, the rule for synaptic plasticity, and their implications in disorders of motivation (See

The successful candidate holds a PhD degree in Neurobiology or Physics, should be curious and enthusiastic about neuroscience. Previous and extensive laboratory experience in synaptic neurophysiology is a pre-requisite, and programming and imaging skills would represent a strong asset. The candidate must be a team player ready to be part of a multicultural and collegial environment and possess good written and verbal English communication skills.

The Department of Fundamental Neurosciences (DNF) at University of Lausanne is a dynamic and international environment located only few steps away from the Lemanic Lake. The DNF provides common facilities for imaging, molecular and cell biology as well as behavio. The Institute brings together researchers with diverse backgrounds, working in concert to achieve high standards in training education.

Applications should include a detailed CV, a brief motivation letter and the names and e-mail addresses of at least two referees.
