Research Fellow in Visual Neuroscience. A post-doctoral position funded by the Wellcome Trust is available in the laboratory of Leon Lagnado to study information processing in the visual system of zebrafish. Fluorescent reporters of synaptic transmission and neural activity will be used in conjunction with advanced imaging methods (2P microscopy and single-plane illumination microscopy) to investigate the output that the retina provides to higher visual centers and the subsequent processing of this output. We are particularly interested in the properties of synapses underlying the computational properties of neural circuits. One aim will be to investigate how visual processing is modulated by other sensory stimuli (e.g olfactory) and/or motor activity. We are a very active research group located in the Neuroscience Centre, which also houses a number of other groups using imaging and electrophysiology to study neural circuits involved in sensory processing ( The School of Life Sciences is at the forefront of research in the biological sciences in the UK, coming 8th in the Research Excellence Framework in 2014.

Applicants must have a Ph.D and research experience in experimental neuroscience. Experience in visual neuroscience or the analysis of neural circuits would be a distinct advantage, as would skills in multiphoton imaging or molecular biology. More about the laboratory and our previous work can be found at: Informal enquiries are encouraged and should be made to Leon Lagnado ( The formal application process is described here:
