Funded Postdoctoral Positions in Neuroscience
Institute of Neuroscience, Alicante (Spain)

We are recruiting hard-working and enthusiastic postdocs with an interest in Neuroscience. Our group runs several related projects to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the wiring and remodeling of neural circuits, and their impact on cognition, social and emotional behaviors. We have a strong interest on tackling how dysfunction of these processes drives the emergence of brain disease.
The specific project will use mouse genetics and viral manipulations to study how juvenile glutamate-type NMDA receptors in neuronal and non-neuronal populations shape the development of long-range and local neural circuits and their rewiring by sensory experience (see Nature Rev Neuroscience, 17, 623 (2016), Journal of Neuroscience, 34, 9213 (2014), Nature Medicine, 19, 1030 (2013), PNAS, 110, 20807 (2013)].
Our laboratory provides an alive and bilingual scientific environment at the Instituto de Neurociencias (IN) de Alicante in the south-east of Spain by the Mediterranean Sea. The Institute hosts research groups exploring the development, structure and function of the nervous system using a large repertoire of state-of the-art approaches. In addition, our team is engaged in national and international collaborations that allow us to expand knowledge and resources.
Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related discipline, and a strong background in cell/molecular biology and biochemistry, modern morphological or fluorescent imaging methods, or mouse genetics. Experience in the tracing of synaptic circuits, axonal remodeling, myelination, or quantitative imaging approaches will be valued. The position is funded for an initial period of 2 years; competitive candidates should be committed to eventually becoming self-funded with fellowships. Candidates should submit CV and contact information for 3 references to: Dr. Isabel Pérez-Otaño,
