Description
A fully-funded post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Christian Mayer at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Martinsried (near Munich), Germany.
Using genetic fate mapping strategies in rodents, combined with statistical and machine learning-based methods, the goal of our group is to elucidate the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that drive cellular decision-making during interneuron development. We are using high-throughput single cell RNA-sequencing methods to reconstruct developmental trajectories and are building an integrated framework to understand how a cell’s spatial localization, parental lineage and neural network activity influence its behavior and fate. A growing body of evidence suggests that defects in interneuron development are associated with epilepsy, autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other complex neuropsychiatric diseases. Therefore, elucidating the molecular mechanisms regulating interneuron development is crucial for understanding how the brain operates in both health and disease.
The MPI for Neurobiology is part of a broad network of research institutions in the Munich area dedicated to research on different life science topics, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment for international scientists.
Applications, including a CV and a brief description of research interests and future plans should be sent to cmayer@neuro.mpg.de
