Post-doctoral position in Oslo/Norway

Job ID

Two postdoc fellowships in systems neuroscience are available in the group of Koen Vervaeke ( at the University of Oslo. The positions are supported by an ERC starting grant and the Norwegian Research Council. They are initially funded for a period of 2 years but can be extended. The starting date is flexible (ideally after 1st of September 2017).

We are an interdisciplinary team of neurobiologists, physicists and computer scientists searching for highly motivated candidates with an interest in cortical circuits. We use two photon Ca2+ imaging, in-vivo patch-clamp recording, network simulations and advanced data analysis methods to understand how cortical circuits underlie behavior.

One position is available to study the role of inhibitory neuron subtypes in cortical computations. The candidate will use mouse behavior and in-vivo two photon imaging or electrophysiology to study the dendritic properties of specific inhibitory neurons in-vivo.

Another position is available to study the role of neuronal subtypes in the retrosplenial cortex. This cortical area, that is home to place cells and head direction cells, is important for navigation, learning and memory. We have developed a unique approach to studying these cells in trained mice and the candidate will use two-photon imaging or in-vivo patch-clamp recordings to understand the role of these cell types.

Qualifications: Only candidates that have a proven track record of publications in high impact neuroscience journals will be considered. The applicants should have experience with some of the following disciplines; Electrophysiology (patch-clamp or extracellular recordings), two photon microscopy or optogenetics. Please include the contact details of at least two references.

We offer:
* Salary level NOK 486 100 – 567 100 per year
* Favorable pension arrangements
* Attractive welfare benefits
* A friendly and supportive environment ideal for learning new methods
