Ph.D. student positions are available at the Memory and Navigation Circuits group at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-arts in vivo multichannel electrophysiology as well as optogenetic/pharmacogenetic neuronal manipulation in behaving rodents to investigate the neural codes underlying spatial navigation and memory.
An ideal candidate should have a strong background in neuroscience, as well as analytical and programming skills (Matlab, Python, or C). We are also interested in candidates with theoretical background who wish to work with complex data sets, such as the activity of hundreds of neurons recorded from multiple brain structures during behavioral tasks.
The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research is a leading international institution for basic research in neuroscience. In our new building at the Riedberg Campus, researchers from many different backgrounds (e.g. biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, computer science, and mathematics) investigate the structure and function of neural networks in an interactive and collaborative atmosphere.
