Job ID

The lab of Dr. Arckens studies the mechanisms of brain plasticity in health, disease and ageing. We develop and apply state-of-the-art technologies, including neuronal activity mapping, tract tracing, drug/toxin administration, optogenetics, pharmacogenetics, functional proteomics and cell sorting strategies to disentangle cell type-specific and cell circuit contributions. We compare species with different capacities for neuroplasticity including killifish, mouse and cat. Our long-term objective is to create knowledge and understanding of new cellular mediators as well as central molecular and structural mechanisms of brain plasticity to boost the development of novel pharmaceuticals and therapies to compensate for CNS damage.
Currently, we have an open position for a postdoctoral researcher. Your topic will be to investigate how ageing impacts the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving forebrain regeneration after traumatic brain injury, using the short-lived annual killifish Nothobranchius furzeri as a unique gerontology model.

You will develop your own research line in an independent way. You will guide students (undergraduate and graduate level) and contribute to writing papers, grant proposals and reports. You will report on your research at national and international meetings.

You have a PhD degree, a publication track in neural stem cell biology and/or regenerative neurobiology. You are not afraid to pioneer or set up novel technologies. You can thrive in a competitive setting. You like to communicate about your passion for science. You have an international mindset and bring diversity to our team.

We offer an encouraging scientific coaching and excellent research facilities. The position is initially for 1 year, extendable to max 3 years upon positive evaluation. Starting date can be discussed.

Please send us a motivation letter, full CV including publication list and two reference letters to your online application.
