Job ID

The Cortical Plasticity group at the Neurocentre Magendie (Bordeaux, France) is seeking to recruit a Ph.D. student to join their group in Fall 2018.

We are interested in the function and organization of neocortical circuits and their plastic modification during learning/memory and in autism spectrum disorder/fragile X syndrome. The project will involve a combination of innovative viral tracing, whole brain clearing and imaging approaches, structural MRI, electrophysiology, pharmaco- and optogenetics and behavioural tasks in a mouse model of autism spectrum disorder.

The Neurocentre Magendie is an INSERM research institute, and member of the Bordeaux Neurocampus — a centre of excellence for neuroscience research in France. The day-to-day language is English, but support would be provided for learning French if the candidate so wishes. The student would also take part in the academic programme of the Bordeaux Neurocampus/Life Sciences Doctoral School of the University of Bordeaux and have access to advanced training programmes offered by the host institute.

The candidate must:
- hold a Masters research degree (obtained at the very latest, Fall 2018).
- have a very good to excellent academic record.
- be able to demonstrate prior research experience (a research internship as part of their Masters degree counts towards this critieria)
- demonstrate a good level of English
- have the necessary motivation, drive and passion to pursue Ph.D. research
