A PhD position is available in the group of Dr. Natalia Kononenko at the CECAD Excellence Center, University of Cologne, Germany. Our laboratory has a long-standing expertise in synaptic physiology and pathology with the strong focus on the role of membrane trafficking and endocytosis in brain aging and neurodegeneration. Research questions in our lab are addressed using cutting-edge genetic and molecular biology approaches (including CRISPR/Cas9 technologies), transgenic mouse models, in-vivo neuroanatomy techniques and live imaging.

Cologne is a vibrant city with a highly international academic research environment. Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD) is one of the most dynamic centers of aging research in Germany. Our independent research group is a member of the CECAD and the Institute for Genetics at the University of Cologne. Once recruited, you will be joining an exceptional scientific environment at the CECAD and benefit from interdisciplinary interactions with the group members of Max Planck Institutes for Aging and Metabolic Research and University Hospital of Cologne.

The PhD position will be funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Initial appointment is for two years, extension possible. The tentative start is 01.09.2018.The application deadline is 31.07.2018.

Absolute Requirement: Master (Diploma) in molecular and cellular neuroscience. We expect an open-minded and very enterprising personality, capable of working in a collaborative research group! Ideal candidates should possess a good scientific appetite and a willingness to succeed! Fluency in spoken and written English is a strong requirement.
