Description

The Osterweil lab is recruiting a motivated individual to fill a postdoctoral position. You will be joining the exceptional group of scientists in the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, recently ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the world (https://www.ed.ac.uk/discovery-brain-sciences).

The laboratory’s research has two overlapping goals— (1) to understand the contribution of new protein synthesis to dynamic synaptic changes and learning, and (2) to investigate the role of mRNA translation in autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disability (ASD/ID). We are addressing these questions using genetically modified mouse models of ASD/ID. The goal is to understand the basic neurobiology of synaptic regulation, and also identify disease pathogenesis (https://www.osterlab.org/).

Research projects in the laboratory are pursued using a number of experimental strategies, including advanced techniques in molecular and cellular biology, slice electrophysiology, and mouse behaviour. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in RNA-seq and bioinformatics, however this is not required.

Motivated individuals should send a CV, letters of reference and any other application materials to Emily.osterweil@ed.ac.uk.
