Description

We are looking for an ambitious Postdoc with a strong neurobiological background who is interested to explore the molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity by live-cell imaging and electrophysiology. Several years experience with advanced cellular imaging techniques (e.g. LSM, 2P-imaging, STED) and corresponding data analysis are expected. Expertise in electrophysiology (patch clamp, field potential recordings) and optogenetic techniques is also highly appreciated. The candidate must hold a PhD degree in neuroscience and should be a highly motivated pro-active and responsible team member.
Our lab investigates cellular processes underlying learning and memory with a combination of electrophysiological and imaging techniques in mouse brain slices. We explore mechanisms by which secreted messengers modulate plasticity processes (see Edelmann, Neuron, 2015; Groessl, Nat. Neurosci., 2018) and want to visualize messenger secretion and function in parallel to the expression of synaptic plasticity with novel imaging tools.
We offer state of the art equipment and instrumentation for:
combined patch clamp recordings and fluorescence imaging/optogenetic stimulation; viral expression of proteins after stereotactic injections into the brain; morphological analysis of neurons and dendritic spines (Golgi-Cox staining); behavioral physiology; protein biochemistry.
Our team of experienced electrophysiologists, imaging experts, behavioral biologists, and biochemists will provide intensive support and inspiring scientific interactions.
Salary: according to the German TV-L (100% E13) scheme. The position is initially limited to 2 years; prolongation for up to 6 years possible. Applicants should have proven their scientific excellence by at least one first author publication.
Please send in a single PDF file: CV, copies of master and PhD certificates, 1-page summary of Master and PhD projects, and contact details from 3 senior scientists who could provide letters of reference.
