The Institute of Physiology at RWTH Aachen University has an opening for a

PhD student (m/f) in the field of Ion Channel Research

This is a part-time position (65%). The salary corresponds to level 13 TV-L. The start date for the position is 1.12.2018, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

The project
Modulation of neuronal signaling by binding of endogenous peptides to ionotropic receptors and ion channels is a highly relevant physiological process. Yet to date, its molecular mechanism is not understood. This DFG-funded project focuses on identifying binding sites of known neuropeptide ligands on different but related ion channels by employing state of the art techniques from the fields of molecular and chemical biology. You will be part of a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary, international team working on this project.

Your profile

• You have a MSc degree (or equivalent) in biology, chemistry or any related subject
• You have a strong interest in ion channel research and in molecular mechanisms of neuronal processes
• You have practical experience in the fields of molecular biology and/or biochemistry. Experience with mutagenesis and protein purification from cellular lysates will be appreciated.
• You are highly motivated, engaged and excited to work alongside an international team
• You are proficient in spoken and written English
