Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Neurophysiology

A 3-year postdoctoral fellowship (SKO 1352) in neurophysiology /electrophysiology is available in the Brain Signaling group (Professor Johan F. Storm) at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo. The position is funded by the University of Oslo and the project also involves other European groups (including Matthew Larkum, Berlin, W. Vandoeffel, Leuven/Harvard, H. Mansvelder, Amsterdam) and Oslo University hospital.
This neurophysiology project focuses on cellular and network mechanisms of conscious perception and neuromodulation within the mammalian cerebral cortex, comparing in rodents, humans and monkeys, with particular emphasis on functions of pyramidal neuron dendrites and interneurons, using electrophysiology, magnetic and optical stimulation and recording, in vivo and in brain slices.

The selected candidate will have a strong background in neurophysiology / electrophysiology. Experience with EEG/ECoG recording in vivo, patch clamp in vivo and/or in vitro, electrical and/or magnetic (TMS) brain stimulation, will be important. Experience with optogenetics, wide-field calcium imaging of cortical activity, and/or 2-photon imaging, advanced data analysis (e.g. MATLAB, Python, or Neuron) and/or computational modelling, will also be positively evaluated, but clearly not all of the skills mentioned here are required.

The successful applicants will join a multidisciplinary and international team to work on a project that bridges studies of intracellular electrophysiology, brain networks, connectivity, brain states, and consciousness (sleep/wake, anesthesia) in rodents, humans, and non-human primates.
• Applicants must hold a PhD degree in neuroscience, basal or clinical neurophysiology, medicine, psychology, or neurotechnology
