The Institute for Molecular Cell Biology
at the University of Münster is looking for a

PhD student (TVL-13, 65%) to investigate the

Regulation of intracellular transport in differentiating neurons

The differentiation of a polarized neuronal morphology and the radial migration of neurons are key events during development to establish the complex architecture of the mammalian neocortex. Defects in these processes disrupt cortical development and lead to neurodevelopmental diseases.
We are investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of intracellular transport during neuronal development in mice. In particular, we are interested in how the transport of mitochondria and vesicles is regulated and linked to neuronal differentiation. The project involves the functional analysis of factors regulating intracellular transport and mitochondrial dynamics by live cell imaging.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with an interest in understanding fundamental questions of neurobiology at the molecular and cellular level. The project will employ a combination of molecular, cell biological, and genetic techniques in combination with life cell imaging to study differentiation in cultured neurons, organotypic slice cultures and knockout mice.

Experience in life cell imaging or the culture of neurons is an advantage but not required. Successful candidates are expected to join the CiM-IMPRS graduate program ( The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer.

Applications can be sent by e-mail until November 30 to Prof. Andreas Püschel: Institute for Molecular Cell Biology, University of Münster, Schlossplatz 5, 48149 Münster, Germany.
