Job ID

The laboratories of Dr. Jeffrey Savas and Dr. Bob Vassar seek to hire a collaborative postdoctoral fellow to fill an NIH funded position in Alzheimer's disease proteomics.

The candidate will focus part of their effort on a recently funded project entitled "Structural characterization of A-beta strain variation in AD mouse models." The proposed research aims to determine the structural heterogeneity of A-beta aggregates found in Alzheimer’s Disease. Understanding how the structures of A-beta aggregates depend on brain region, sex, and disease progression, will have an impact on the development of therapies that target these aggregates. The remaining effort will be used to explore new aspects of AD etiology and pathology with mouse models and human brain extracts in combination with various proteomic technologies.

We are searching for a motivated and passionate post-doctoral research associate. The labs use biochemical, molecular, and proteomic technologies to investigate synaptic dysfunction and neurodegeneration in the context AD. The candidate will carry out biochemical, molecular, and mass spectrometry-based proteomic analyses (MS experience is not required, but welcomed).

Applicants are encouraged to provide a statement of research interests, their CV, and list of at least three references.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Neuroscience or Biochemistry. Previous experience with sterotactic injections is preferred but not required. Previous experience working with mice is required. The candidate should be prepared to make a complete commitment to ground-breaking research and work well with others in a fast paced work environment. Importantly, the candidate must have at least one or more first author publication(s) in a peer-reviewed reputable journal and ideally have completed their PhD in the last 5 years.
