The Inner Ear Laboratory Innsbruck is looking for a PhD student to work on high resolution microCT scans to perform finite element modelling. Since this is a collaborative DACH project between the Technical University of Munich, Germany with Prof Werner Hemmert and Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria with Prof Anneliese Schrott-Fischer.
The selected candidate can either choose to perform his/her PhD studies either at the TUM, Munich or the MUI, Innsbruck. Ideal candidate should be interested in working at the interphase between audiological sciences/neurophysiology and computational sciences.

Preferred qualifying degrees include Biomedical Neurosciences/ Biomedical Computing/ Audiology etc. Data from this project would hopefully contribute to the refinement of the current generation of cochlear implants. Knowledge in the utilization of computational tools like MATLAB and statistical software’s like GraphPad Prism or SPSS would be of advantage.

Objectives of the said project includes

- Segmentation of the cochlea using appropriate software
- Histological evaluation of temporal bones specimens using light microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy
- Computational modelling of the human cochlear nerve
- Estimation of neuronal survival patterns in relation to auditory pathologies
- Auditory brainstem recordings (ABR) & Distortion product optoacoustic emissions (DPOAE)

Selected candidate will be paid according to the rates prescribed by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) for PhD students plus travel funds for international scientific meetings. Please submit your application with two reference letters to before the application deadline of 31.01.2019
