Description

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join our lab or neuroepigenetics at EPFL (graefflab.epfl.ch)!

Recently, we have discovered that a so far unknown metalloproteinase PM20D1 confers neuroprotection in Alzheimer’s disease (Sanchez-Mut et al., 2018, Nature Medicine). However, how PM20D1 exerts its protective effect remains mysterious. Your role as a PhD student is therefore to elucidate the upstream regulatory and downstream effector pathways of PM20D1, using state-of-the-art molecular, biochemical and epigenetic tools, in combination with both cell culture and mouse in vivo work. Furthermore, you will be implicated in a drug discovery project in which we aim to mimic PM20D1’s neuroprotective effect pharmacologically.

Your background is ideally situated in the field of Alzheimer’s disease or neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on molecular biology and/or epigenetic analyses.

The contract features a competitive salary in a highly stimulating research environment at the Brain Mind Institute (http://bmi.epfl.ch/) of the School of Life Sciences at EPFL.

EPFL itself is located in Lausanne on the shores of Lake Geneva, facing the Swiss and French alps. Living standards are among the highest worldwide.

The starting date for this position is mid-2019, with some flexibility towards later start dates.

If you are interested, contact us (@ soledad.andany@epfl.ch) with your CV, your list of publications, a letter of motivation outlining your research interests and why you want to join the lab, as well as the contact details of three references.
