Description

PhD Position in Neural Circuits & Sleep.

A PhD position is available immediately in the laboratory of Prof. Antoine Adamantidis, at the University of Bern (Center for Experimental Neurology, Dept of Neurology). The Tidis Lab (tidis-lab.org) investigates the neural substrates of sleep states, sleep oscillations and sleep functions in mice using multidisciplinary approaches (see Nature 2007; Nat. Neurosci. 2013, 2016, 2018; and Science 2016). We are seeking for a highly motivated candidate to contribute to our studies of the hypothalamic modulation of sleep and goal-directed behaviors (e.g., feeding). The project involves state-of-the-art technologies including cellular network activity imaging (i.e., calcium imaging using Inscopix, micro-endoscope), optogenetics and instrumental learning.
Requirements: We are seeking for an ambitious, highly motivated, independent and team-orientated PhD student with a strong interest in system neuroscience and sleep physiology who enjoys the technical challenge of cutting edge research. Experience with electrophysiology, optogenetics, signal analysis and computer programming (Matlab, Python, C++, etc.) will be an advantage. We offer a highly motivating, vibrant neuroscience environment with an outstanding technological background and infrastructure.
To apply: Please send applications including CV, motivation letter and 3 references (as a single PDF) by email to Prof. Antoine Adamantidis (antoine.adamantidis@dbmr.unibe.ch) or Clauria Wille (Claudia.wille@insel.ch).
