The project is focused on the study of PRRT2 a gene mutated in infantile epilepsy and paroxysmal movement disorders and is aimed to understand the molecular basis of these diseases. We recently isolated by proteomics some PRRT2 protein interactors and we are now investigating their functional role in primary mouse neurons silencing/overexpressing PRRT2 and in human neurons differentiated from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPSC) reprogrammed from fibroblasts of patients carrying PRRT2 mutations (in collaboration with G.Gaslini Institute, Genova).

Previous experience in molecular and cellular biology is welcome. The successful candidate will apply molecular biology/CRISPR-CAS9 gene editing, biochemical, morphological and imaging techniques to mouse neuronal cultures and to human iPS cells differentiated into functional excitatory/inhibitory neurons.

The Neurophysiology laboratory at University is fully equipped for molecular and cellular biology, morphology, electrophysiology and live cell imaging. Moreover members of the lab have full access to the laboratories of the Center of Synaptic Neuroscience and Technology NSYN-IIT including access to live imaging, confocal and electron microscopy facilities.
