Job ID
21793
Place
Edinburgh/UK

Description

A postdoctoral Research Fellow position (12 months) is available to study a potential drug target for Alzheimer’s disease in induced pluripotent stem cell derived neurons. The fellow will be based in the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences and UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) at the University of Edinburgh, working with Prof Tara Spires-Jones.

The successful candidate will conduct original research, produce material for publication and dissemination, and work as a member of a research team including training students in research techniques. The post holder will have or be expecting a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, etc). We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist with an interest in synaptic integrity and resilience. Experience with human stem cell derived neurons is essential and experience with primary astrocyte culture, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy image analysis are highly desirable. The post holder will use stem cell derived neurons and proprietary reagents from a collaborating pharmaceutical company to test whether modulating a potential drug target can prevent or reverse synapse degeneration.
