Ph.D. Student in PARIS/France

Job ID

A Ph.D. student position is available at the Institut du Fer à Moulin in Paris to study immune-brain interactions during cortical development. Recent discoveries have highlighted the role of immune-related genes, including genes coding for proteins of the complement, in shaping cortical network maturation. Dysregulation of the complement system interferes with normal brain development and is strongly associated with schizophrenia (Sekar et al., Nature 530:177, 2016). The project will aim at deciphering complement-dependent mechanisms that underlie cortical alterations in a novel transgenic mouse model.
The multidisciplinary project encompasses ex vivo electrophysiology and optogenetics, histology and behavior. We offer state-of-the-art facilities and a stimulating scientific environment in a dynamic, young and interdisciplinary team.
The candidate should be autonomous and self-driven, with excellent academic credentials in a quantitative field (e.g. biology, neuroscience, engineering, computer science, etc.). She/He should be curious and willing to learn new techniques rapidly. Good communication skills and proficiency in English are expected. Theoretical and practical knowledge in patch-clamp electrophysiology would be appreciated but is not required.
Employment is expected to begin on October 1st, 2019. The position is fixed-term for a minimum of 3 years and funded by the European Union (ERANET-Neuron program). The student will be registered as a PhD student of Sorbonne University, and will work at the Institut du Fer à Moulin, an INSERM Institute devoted to the study of the development and plasticity of the nervous system. The Institute is conveniently located in the Latin Quarter in Paris and close to other major research centers, allowing for fruitful exchanges with the vibrant community of Parisian neuroscientists and biologists. The salary will be provided according to the guidelines of INSERM and Sorbonne University.
