Postdoctoral Research Fellow position:
Signalling mechanisms controlling synaptic plasticity in health and disease

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate synaptic plasticity in the mammalian nervous system (McLeod et al, Cell Reports 2018). The successful applicant will study the mechanisms by which Wnt signalling regulates synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus. The postdoctoral researcher, under the direction of Professors Patricia Salinas at UCL, will take a multidisciplinary approach that uses in vivo analyses of mutant mice using state-of-the-art imaging techniques combined with the latest molecular genetic methods, optogenetics and electrophysiology. The researcher will also examine how Wnt-mediated synaptic plasticity influences synapse stability in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.

We are interested in attracting dynamic and enthusiastic young scientists with expertise in the following areas: cellular neurobiology, imaging analyses and electrophysiology. Experience in molecular biology and transgenic technology would be advantageous.

The post, funded by the MRC, will be awarded for one year in the first instance with the possibility of further funding. Salary £35,328 to £42,701 per annum (Grade 7), inclusive of London Allowance.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Patricia Salinas (email:, Phone: 020 7679 6577). For an outline of the lab’s research interests see:
