Description

Neurophysiology post-doctoral position to study neural circuits involved in sensorimotor information processing during behavior. The lab investigates how midbrain and forebrain neural circuits (e.g. thalamocortical, basal ganglia, colliculi, substantia nigra) dynamically change their activity and responsiveness during different behavioral states. We are deciphering the neural mechanisms by which the significance of sensory stimuli is modified through experience -particularly in the context of avoidance conditioning (when an initially neutral sensory stimulus comes to evoke active or passive avoidance). The successful candidate will employ electrophysiological recordings, together with optogenetics, DREADDs, calcium imaging, etc., in freely behaving (and head fixed) mice. Complementary in vitro electrophysiology (slices) and histology experiments will also be conducted. The lab has extensive expertise with these procedures (see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30936242) and utilizes novel data science management approaches to maximize rigor. The PI will work closely with the successful candidate in a very collaborative lab environment to ensure success of the projects.
