Post-doctoral position in Magdeburg/Germany

Job ID

The Heisenberg Research Group in Sensory Physiology at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (and OVGU) in Magdeburg investigates the neural basis of perceptual decision-making in primates. We are looking for a highly motivated Post-doctoral Research Scientist (full-time) for a 3-year fixed-term position (potentially renewable) commencing 01/09/2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. This position in Professor Kristine Krug’s Research Group is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE).

Our projects focus on the neural signals underlying perceptual decisions and their interactions in wider brain networks in primates. This new work requires the exploration and development of highfield MRI (at 7T) in non-human primates in combination with experimental neurophysiology and intervention methods.

The ideal applicant should have a strong quantitative background, a PhD in neuroscience, Medicine, or another Natural Science and extensive experiences in either MRI (with human or animals) or in animal neurophysiology. Previous experience with non-human primates is desirable but not essential. Expertise in Matlab or another programming language and statistical methods are required. The candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and has the confidence and motivation to develop data analysis techniques, including multimodal analysis of MRI data, multivariate analysis of MRI and electrophysiological data, temporal coherence analysis etc. Postdocs also take primary responsibility for research reporting, presentation at scientific meetings etc., and where appropriate will contribute to public understanding and other aspects of dissemination. Very good written and oral communication skills in English are expected.
