Description

FUNDED PhD POSITION IN NEUROSCIENCE
We are searching for motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic individuals interested in Neuroscience. Our group runs several related projects to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the wiring and remodelling of neural circuits, and how their impact the emergence of cognition, social and emotional behaviour. We have a strong interest on tackling how dysfunction of these processes drives brain diseases.

The specific project will use conventional/Crispr genetics and/or viral manipulations to unravel the functions of juvenile glutamate-type NMDA receptors in specific neuronal and non-neuronal populations (Nature Rev Neuroscience, 17, 623 (2016), Journal of Neuroscience, 34, 9213 (2014), Nature Medicine, 19, 1030 (2013), PNAS, 110, 20807 (2013)]. Candidates with an interest in molecular/cell biology, mouse genetics or behavior are encouraged to apply.

Our laboratory provides an alive and bilingual environment at the Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante, located in the south-east of Spain and associated to the Spanish Research Council and University Miguel Hernández. The Host Institute is composed by several research groups exploring the development, structure and function of the nervous system using a variety of state-of the-art approaches. In addition, our team has established a number of national and international collaborations with leading groups in the field, which enables us to expand knowledge and resources.

A strong academic record, a Master in Neuroscience or a related discipline (Biology, Biomedicine) and knowledge of English is required. Previous experience in cell biology, morphological studies or modern fluorescent imaging methods will be valued. Interested candidates should submit CV and contact information for 3 references to: Dr. Isabel Pérez-Otaño, otano@umh.es. The project will be funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (4-year term).
