Description

Postdoctoral position to study heart-brain interactions

The Institute of Cognitive Neurology (Prof. Melanie Wilke) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to investigate thalamo-cortical circuits supporting heart-brain interactions. Our research program involves a multi-modal approach that combines causal brain perturbation methods with electrophysiological recordings in behaving macaques performing cognitive tasks, and comparative studies in human patients.
The project is a collaboration between the Institute of Cognitive Neurology (Prof. Melanie Wilke, http://www.cognitive-neurology.med.uni-goettingen.de) at the University Medical School in Goettingen, the Decision and Awareness group at the German Primate Center (Dr. Igor Kagan, http://www.dpz.eu/dag) and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization (Prof. Stefan Luther, https://www.bmp.ds.mpg.de). We offer a stimulating multidisciplinary scientific environment with state-of-the-art animal, electrophysiological and computational facilities. The initial position is for two years.
We look for academic career-oriented candidates with a strong experimental background and quantitative skills, a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Computational or Systems Neuroscience, Psychology, or Physics, an excellent research record. Prior experience in cognitive sciences or neuroscience, and a background in relevant analytical methods, or primate neurophysiological experiments are a plus. Prior programming experience in MATLAB or Python is a must.

Applications should include a CV including publication list, a letter of intent with a statement of scientific/research experience and interests, and the names and contact information of two references, sent as a single PDF file to Melanie Wilke at melanie.wilke@med.uni-goettingen.de, with a subject line “postdoc heart-brain interactions”.
Review of applications will begin August 1st, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled.
