Description

The Department Molecular Neurobiology of Behavior at the University of Göttingen seeks to fill one position of a Research Assistant (PhD Student). Regular working hours will be 65% of a full position (currently 25.9 hours per week) with a contract initially limited to three years. This position should be filled by 1st of September, 2019. Salary: Pay grade 13 TV-L.

The research project investigates neuronal mechanisms underlying learning and memory and formation of neuronal circuits. Our research team uses the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. The molecular basis of the precise wiring of neurons in the Drosophila brain will be analyzed in detail. Moreover, learning-induced synaptic plasticity will be visualized using high resolution microscopy and optical imaging methods, and analyzed in combination with neurogenetic manipulations and behavioral assays. The research project is embedded in the program “Research Cooperation Lower Saxony – Israel”. Parts of the experiments will be conducted in Dr. Oren Schuldiner’s laboratory at the Weizmann-Institute for Science.

Your Profile:

• Excellent University degree (Master of Science) in Biology
• Study focus in the field of Neurobiology
• Excellent language skills in written and spoken English
• Very good knowledge and experience in programming
• Practical experience in the field of Drosophila Neurobiology
• Practical experience in microscopy techniques
