New York/USA

Description

Dr. Harony-Nicolas’s lab investigates neural and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders, with a particular focus on (1) studying the effect of ASD-associated mutations on brain systems and neural circuits of social behavior with a focus on the oxytocin system (2) assessing the effect of novel or FDA approved therapeutics using behavioral and neural activity outcome measures, and (3) improving drug delivery to the brain using cutting edge technologies. Dr. Harony-Nicolas’s lab uses transgenic ASD rat models and applies behavioral and molecular neuroscience approaches, fiber photometry and brain microdialysis techniques, genome wide transcriptional analysis, and cutting-edge chemo-genetic tools to dissect molecular pathways and neural circuits affected in ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performing viral injections to trace, activate, and/or inhibit specific neural population in the rat brain.
• Recording neural activity, using the fiber photometry technique in behaving rats.
• Carrying out brain micro dialysis in behaving rats.
• Carrying out routine and standardized experiments using molecular neuroscience techniques.
Postdocs are also expected to lead new experiments and techniques when needed, and will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reviewing experimental data for publication and presentation. Postdoc will have the responsibility of supervising students and technicians in the lab.

This is a 2-years position, renewable for up to 5 years. The position is available staring September 2019, yet the start date is flexible.
