Description

POST DOCTORAL POSITION IN ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY ON THE PHYSIOLOGY OF PAIN INTIATING GLIA IN THE SKIN.

A two-year post doctoral fellowship with possibilities of extended stay is available at the Division of Molecular Neurobiology, Karolinska Institutet. We recently discovered a new pain initiating organ in the skin. This organ is built from specialized cutaneous Schwann cells that are mechnosensitive (Abdo et al., Science. 2019 Aug 16;365(6454):695-699. doi: 10.1126/science.aax6452). The candidate will characterize the mechanosensitive ion channel and physiological properties of these cells and access novel enabling technologies including opto- and chemo-genetics, advanced mouse genetic models and more, which allows for a systematic strategy to achieve the objectives of the project. The laboratory is very well equipped for electrophysiology, advanced mouse genetics, advanced cellular and molecular biology, high-content single cell RNA sequencing and DNA sequencing, behaviour, neuroanatomy and imaging methods and is placed in a young and vibrant research environment. A strong background in electrophysiology is required and histology, behavioural tests, surgery and cell biology is appreciated. Candidates should have a recent PhD degree, and a high motivation to pursue a challenging research. Candidates seeking the position should send an inquiry with CV and references to Patrik.Ernfors@ki.se.
