Description

Postdoc position studying synaptic mitochondrial dysfunction in autism spectrum disorder.

Autism spectrum disorder has been related to dendritic and synaptic dysfunctions in the striatum. Synaptic mitochondria not only produce ATP needed to sustain synaptic signaling but are also involved in shaping the synaptic response by acting as Ca2+ sinks. In this joint effort, the groups of Michael Schmeisser and Axel Methner at the Focus program translational neuroscience of the University Medical Center Mainz / Germany (https://www.blogs.uni-mainz.de/ftn-eng/about-ftn/) are looking for a Postdoc candidate interested in studying synaptic mitochondrial dysfunction in mouse models of autism spectrum disorder. The work will be funded by an FTN postdoc stipend and includes a variety of techniques all established in our laboratories like biochemical preparations of synaptic mitochondria, mass spectrometry, high-resolution respirometry, Ca2+ signaling and state-of-the-art microscopy. Relevant publications are Schmeisser et al, Nature 2012 and O’Connolly et al., Cell Death and Differentiation 2017. Please send a CV including references to Axel.methner@gmail.com< mailto:Axel.methner@gmail.com >.
