INTERFACING FLEXIBLE MICROELECTRODE ARRAYS TO NEURAL TISSUE. The Neurophysics lab at the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute (NMI) at the University of Tübingen, Germany has immediate opening for a PhD position. In the proposed experimental project, the interfacing (electrophysiological recording and simultaneous stimulation) of flexible electrode arrays to single neurons, nerve fibres and neural tissue shall be pursued.

In several collaborative projects funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research, we interface flexible microelectrode arrays to neural tissue, aiming to record single unit activity and field potentials. Our main goal is to understand network activity at single cell resolution and develop appropriate tools, i.e. by stimulating selected areas or cell types using optogenetic strategies. The Neurophysics lab (head: Dr. Günther Zeck) has published first results (H. Stutzki et al., J.Neurophysiol. 2016; A. Corna et al., J.Neur.Eng. 2018) where flexible microelectrode arrays revealed the activation of retinal circuits to artificial stimulation. The prospective PhD student will closely collaborate with partner institutes at the University Hospital Tübingen and with MedTech companies.

- Master degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences or similar
- Experience conducting electrophysiological experiments
- Willingness to learn and perform basic electrophysiological data analysis (MATLAB or Python)
We offer an interesting PhD project in a multidisciplinary team as well as a task-oriented salary according to the regulations of the TV-L scale.
