Description

My research group is working on the neurobiology of Psychiatric disorders. More specifically, we try to understand how synaptic mechanism at the molecular level could translate into complex behavior, and how it could be implicated in the etiology of psychiatric symptoms (see recent references below). We have now an opening for a 4 years PhD position starting January 2020. The selected candidate will work on the role or noradrenergic transmission on the vulnerability to chronic stress. The successful candidate will have access to cutting-edge techniques including in vivo optogenetics, chemogenetics and calcium imaging during behavior in freely moving mice to perform simultaneous recordings of neuronal activity.

WARNING: The selected candidate will have to apply to the IPN (Integrated Program in Neuroscience) at McGill (https://www.mcgill.ca/ipn/). Please check carefully whether your application could be accepted before responding to this job offer.

Profile
- We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a Master degree in Neurosciences or Life Sciences, and with good English writing and speaking skills to integrate our international group.
- Experience with in vivo electrophysiology, microdialysis or optogenetics is required. Additional experience with mouse behavior or tracing approaches would be a asset.

The PhD student will receive a salary of 24k$/year. In Canada, PhD are for 4 to 5 years. If you wish to apply, please contact Bruno Giros bruno.giros@mcgill.ca and include:
* Motivation letter (no more than 2 pages).
* Curriculum vitae (as detailed as possible)
* Names and contact info of at least 2-3 referees, including Ph.D. advisor.
