The NeuroNetwork "Non-Invasive Deep Brain Stimulation for Motor Disorders" offers for a talented, skilled and highly motivated student one PhD student (f/m/d; TV-L E13 65%) position for a project covering small animal magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy (MRI/MRS), transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS), and animal behavior.

The project is funded by the Center for Behavioural Brain Sciences (CBBS). The PhD student will work at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN, Small Animal MRI Lab) in close cooperation with colleagues at the Otto von Guericke University (OvGU), Medical Faculty and Faculty for Electrical Engineering. Our NeuroNetwork aims at the development of a novel method for non-invasive brain stimulation using TDCS but targeting subcortical brain areas for the therapy of motor disorders.

During your project, you will mainly perform functional MRI/MRS on rodents during TDCS using an 9.4 T animal scanner. You will also test these animals in several behavioral experiments for motor coordination. In addition, you will closely collaborate with the other network partners who use computer modelling and simulations and clinical approaches, respectively.

You will need a completed university degree (master, diploma or similar qualification) in neuroscience, biology, medicine or a related natural science. Some experience in small animal MRI/MRS, behavioral experiments and computer programming would be beneficial.

We offer an excellent supervision including a PhD thesis committee, the integration into the local graduate training programs, excellent working conditions and opportunities for cooperation across disciplines, and state-of-the-art technical facilities.

Please send your application documents including a motivation statement, CV, copies of relevant certificates and the addresses of two references by November 30, 2018 (preferably in the form of a single pdf document) to PD Dr. Eike Budinger (
