Post-doctoral position in Stockholm/Sweden

Job ID
25817
Place
Stockholm/Sweden

Description

A post-doc position in electrophysiology and/or neuroanatomy is available in the Neuro-plasticity group (Dr. K. Ampatzis) at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

We are looking for one highly motivated researcher with an interest in neuroscience with a particular focus on motor systems. The offered position is part of ongoing projects regarding the plasticity of spinal cord network organization under physiological (exercise/training) and pathophysiological conditions, such as neuromuscular disorders (NMDs) and injury. To address this issue, we will take advantage of the experimental amenability of the genetically powerful model system of the zebrafish – whose circuitry is relatively simple, better understood, and produces a measurable and robust behavioral output.

The post-doc candidate will be involved in research to investigate how neurotransmitter changes shape the organization and operational range of the corresponding neuro-circuit. In our lab, we use a variety of state-of-the-art methods, including electrophysiology (patch-clamp recordings), imaging, fixed tissue immunofluorescent microscopy, and animal behavior.

Candidates should be highly self-motivated, energetic, able to work independently, and in collaboration.
Requirements:
(1) Ph.D. degree in neuroscience (within the past two years),
(2) Expertise with whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology and neuroanatomy (immunohistochemistry), preferably in zebrafish (demonstrated with at least two first-author publications).

There is some flexibility in the starting date, with preference within the next three months.

Applications should include a detailed CV with publication list, a brief statement of research experience and interests (1page max), and at least two references to Dr. Konstantinos Ampatzis (konstantinos.ampatzis@ki.se).
