Description

Postdoctoral-position in brain circuits.

The Meletis laboratory at Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience, has an open position for a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the role of neuron subtypes in basal ganglia circuits for motivated behavior and decision-making, including circuit imbalance underlying addiction and mood disorders.
We currently investigate the identity, connectivity, and in vivo role of neuron subtypes in striatal circuits, lateral hypothalamus, and lateral habenula, focusing on how the function of neuron subtypes in circuits shape motivated behaviors.

To address the circuit function in motivated behaviors, we use genetically modified mice for in vivo optogenetics, GCaMP imaging with GRIN lenses (Inscopix), in vivo electrophysiology (optrodes, Neuropixels), multifiber photometry (FIP), and behavioral paradigms (freely moving and head-fixed). We also extensively use methods to map the identity and connectivity of neurons in these circuits based on single cell RNA-seq, Patch-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and monosynaptic rabies tracing.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in a stimulating and collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
We expect applicants to have a strong track record and the determination to contribute to a functional understanding of circuits, with extensive experience and interest in animal behavior, neuroanatomy, electrophysiology, or calcium imaging.
