Job ID

Signal processing/programming engineer in the UK DRI at the University of Edinburgh
Applications are invited for a research engineer position in Dr Jian Gan’s group in the UK Dementia Research Institute at the University of Edinburgh, starting as soon as possible.
We investigate real-time neurocircuit dynamics underlying network oscillations, cognition, and decision-making in vivo. State-of-the-art methodologies in neuroscience, for instance in vivo single-cell and local field potential recording, large-scale silicon probe recording, Ca2+ imaging, well-controlled quantitative behaviours in virtual reality are used to tackle this question. The job holder will contribute to the development and implementation of analytical tools, simulation and modelling based on in vivo electrophysiology/imaging/behavioural data acquired from awake behaving mice.
Successful candidates will have an upper second class honours or equivalent Bachelor or Master’s degree in computer science/engineering/applied mathematics/physics/cognitive science. Alternatively a PhD in computational or theoretical neuroscience/cognitive science/computational biology. Applicants should have proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, C++, Python, R) with a strong curiosity in neural circuit computation and dynamics. Some experience in signal processing, systems/cognitive neuroscience or neural network models will be advantageous.
