Description

Postdoc position using protein engineering to probe molecular mechanisms of memory at Aarhus University.

Aarhus University invites applications for a postdoc position using protein engineering to probe molecular mechanisms of memory at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and the Center of Excellence; PROMEMO - Proteins in Memory.

The position is funded by a grant from The Lundbeck Foundation, and is initially for two years with the possibility of extension. The starting date is 1st of March 2020 or soon thereafter.

The project will use proteins engineering to probe the molecular mechanisms of memory. Memory and learning requires synapses to change strength in response to neuronal communication, a phenomenon known as synaptic plasticity. Synaptic plasticity requires that stimulated synapses recruit a host of new proteins. This project aims to understand the mechanisms by which synaptic stimulation leads to protein recruitment through molecular design principles.

The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, neuroscience, biotechnology, biology or similar, and a good track record. Experience with some of the following techniques is required: Recombinant protein expression and purification, enzyme activity assays, protein interaction studies, and confocal fluorescence microscopy. Experience in neuroscience is desirable, but not an absolute requirement.
