Description

Fully funded, 3-5 year PhD position in Systems Neuroscience

Topic: Internal state dynamics and neuromodulation of behavior in freely moving zebrafish

The RoLi lab (rolilab.org) at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics (https://www.kyb.tuebingen.mpg.de/2549/en) is a systems neuroscience and neuroengineering lab led by Drew Robson and Jennifer Li. We develop novel imaging systems to record and manipulate whole-brain neural activity at cellular resolution in freely swimming larval zebrafish (https://www.nature.com/articles/nmeth.4429/). We use these tools to gain a deeper understanding of the neural circuits that underlie complex and flexible behaviors such as navigation, foraging, and associative learning. Our lab is particularly interested in the neural mechanisms underlying state-dependent changes in behavior (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-019-1858-z).

Our lab is highly multi-disciplinary, and we welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds from systems neuroscience and behavior to engineering and physics. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, creative, and collaborative.

Application Requirements: Familiarity with a programming language (e.g. Julia, MATLAB, Python, or C++) is required. There are no citizenship restrictions.

To apply: Please send a CV, a letter describing your scientific interests, and contact information of three references to jennifer.li@tuebingen.mpg.de
