Postdoctoral position in neural basis of stress resilience

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the group of Dr. Steven Maier and Dr. Michael Baratta to investigate experiential factors that foster resilience and the neural mechanisms that mediate the effects of these variables. Ongoing projects focus on the role of distinct medial prefrontal cortex projections in mediating the long-term protective effects of behavioral control over stress. The successful candidate will lead a project using complementary circuit targeting and readout strategies to investigate the role of prefrontal circuits in the production of resilience.

We encourage highly motivated individuals with a strong background in behavioral neuroscience or related fields to apply. Expertise in viral approaches to neural circuit targeting such as chemogenetics, optogenetics, and fiber photometry are highly desirable. Prior experience in recording techniques, confocal or light-sheet imaging, rodent behavioral testing and stereotaxic surgery are also desired. Candidate qualifications include excellent communication and organization skills, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative team.

Our laboratory consists of newly renovated space in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder, an interdisciplinary program dedicated to understanding the circuit mechanisms of health and disease. Our group applies an integrated experimental approach that focuses on molecular and circuit-level adaptations to challenge, defined broadly as environmental (an adverse event), pharmacological (drugs of abuse), or immunological (an infectious agent).
