Towards a functional definition of the prefrontal cortex

The lab of Marie Carlén, Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, is looking to add a postdoc to the team. The project aims to define the prefrontal cortex of the mouse, across the subregions and a series of functions.

The CarlenLab is using a broad repertoire of experimental techniques, centering around physiology (head-fixed Neuropixels probe recordings and 2-photon imaging / tetrode recordings in freely moving animals) and behavior. Optogenetics is used for investigation of cell-type specific activities underlying prefrontal functions. The lab has a special interest in inhibitory interneurons and the network underpinnings of cortical oscillations. Molecular and genetic approaches are used for large-scale mapping of circuitry and brain regions.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD within the field of systems neuroscience and expertise in in vivo electrophysiology. Skills in computational neuroscience / theoretical physics / engineering / mathematics is meriting. First author publication with relevance to the project is a requirement. We particularly encourage female scientists to apply.

Interested candidates, please contact Marie Carlén ( directly, and include:
- CV
- Cover letter with summary of previous research and a statement of interest
- Information regarding certification for work with research animals
- Contact information for 2-3 references
