Description

The subinstitute “Civil Security Research“ (IAS-7) of the Institute for Advanced Simulation investigates pedestrian and fire dynamics. The IAS-7 has a strong interdisciplinary orientation bringing physicists, mathematicians, psychologists and computer scientists together. Conducting experimental studies with large crowds is one of the tools for researching pedestrian dynamics. Research and teaching are carried out in close cooperation with the Universities of Wuppertal and Bochum.

During the next years, a new research field will be developed in the IAS-7 covering the social psychology of pedestrian dynamics. Exemplary research topics are collective emotions, social identity and social norms in crowds. The development of new methodological approaches for studying psychological aspects in crowds is key. The current research project “Crowd Management in Traffic Infrastructure” illustrates this approach:

Postdoc or PhD position - Social Psychology of Pedestrian Dynamics

Your Job:

• Design and realisation of social psychological experiments
• Data analysis of psychological and physiological data (for example heart rate variability)
• Exchange with national and international research partners
Scientific publications
• Mentoring of students (at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum)
