Neu01 - Retinal circuitry for magnetoreception in birds

The Neurosensorics Group at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg offers a PhD student position (65% part-time, salary according to E13 TV-L, 3 years).

Ideal starting date is April 2020. The position is part of SFB 1372 Magnetoreception and Navigation in Vertebrates. It will be under the supervision of apl. Prof. Dr. Karin Dedek (uol.de/karin-dedek/).

The selected candidate will apply immunohistochemistry, single cell dye injections and recordings to identify the retinal circuitry for magnetoreception in birds.

Profile:
Please note that a diploma or master’s (M.Sc.) degree in neuroscience, biology or a related discipline is required. Moreover, experience in single-electrode electrophysiology of the retina is mandatory; experience in cellular imaging, confocal microscopy and quantitative immunohistochemistry is advantageous. We seek a highly motivated individual with strong quantitative and technical skills and great team spirit to work in an international environment. Good command of the English language (written and spoken) is a must.
